MUSIC KEEPS YOU GROOVIN
Janis Joplin (vocals / song-writer)
The greatest female rock singer of the 1960s, Janis Joplin was also a great blues singer, making her material her own with her wailing and raspy voice.
Joplin was well known for her performing abilities and her fans referred to her stage presence as electric. At the height of her career, she was known as "The Queen of Rock and Roll" as well as "The Queen of Psychedelic Soul" and became known as Pearl amongst her friends. Pearl was also the name of one of her album releases. It became the biggest selling album of her career and featured her biggest hit single, Me and Bobby McGee.
She had many other talents, painter, dancer and music arranger. Joplin was the female version of Elvis Presley in her ability to captivate an audience. Joplin's death in October 1970 at the age of 27 stunned her fans and shocked the music world.
I listen to radio and satellite rock stations and in their mix of music, Janis Joplin is always present. A statement from her, "MUSIC IS FOR GROOVIN" will always have a true meaning of her style and personality.
She will be missed but her songs will live forever.
